New year, refresh your online presence

With 2018 on the horizon, is it time to hit the refresh button on your business’ web presence?  Just like a physical store front, your online presence needs to be refreshed from time-to-time.  Not everything (or even anything) needs to change, but it is definitely good to do a review and take inventory of your presence, and update the things that need it.  Some things to review include:

  • Contact information (phone number, email address(s), names, etc)
  • Locations
  • Operating hours (including holiday hours)
  • Provided services

Things to consider updating

With today’s web, your presence is no longer limited to just your website.  There are a number of places that you will want to check, and make sure that your information is up-to-date.

Your website

Take inventory of your content.  Update anything that is outdated.  Add a special or upcoming promotion to entice customers to shop with you.  If you need some tips on refreshing your website, read John’s blog post on the topic.


If you have a Facebook page, it is good to review this and make sure that the information presented there is up-to-date.  Take a look at the about tab on your Facebook page, and update these details accordingly.  Change out your cover photo, add a new post, or share some photos of a recent project or your store front.

Google (other search engines)

Many of the large search engines (Google, Bing, etc) have business pages for the results that they return in their search results.  You want to make sure that this information is accurate in order to give your customers the best chance to find you (online and in-person).

Don’t have a Facebook page, Google or Bing Business listing?  You might be surprised to find out that you do.  In a lot of cases these online resources will create placeholder pages for businesses and populate them as best as they can with information they find online.  If you find that you have one of these auto-generated pages, claim it, and update the information accordingly.
