Android app for the Folk Festival

July 26, 2011

Sephone has had the good pleasure of working the American Folk Festival for several years now, since the first one in 2005. Previous to 2005, we also worked with the National Folk Festival when they were in Bangor in 2002 to 2004. Consistently, the festival has been one of our best clients to work with.

New This Year

This year we announcing a new component to the festival’s web tools, a mobile application. This application will allow you to see biographical information about the acts performing and see their show times and locations.  It’s much like the brochures at the festival but available on your phone. Also you will get the updated schedule should it change due to the weather. Here are a few screen shots.

Available on Android

Currently the application is available through the android marketplace for your android smartphone. To install the application on your phone, go to the android market place on it, and search for “American Folk Festival” and go ahead and install it. Optional you can also scan this qr with your phone and click install.

Stay tuned for more details regarding the folk festival in the next couple of days.

Mooseswap.com Launches

June 14, 2011

Re-published with permission from the Maine Professional Guides Association.

The Maine Professional Guides Association has engaged Sephone Interactive Media www.Sephone.com of Bangor to develop a web application to assist moose hunters who want to swap their permits www.mooseswap.com

This service to Maine’s moose hunters comes from our commitment to every moose hunter having the hunt of a lifetime. Being drawn in the moose permit lottery is an all too rare event and hunters frequently receive permits in zones that they are not familiar with or want to hunt. Mooseswap.com is designed to help those hunters find other hunters who would like to find a permit in another zone or season.

To use this service moose permit holders will need to know the details of your permit and the permit that you would like to have (Wildlife Management District, season, permit type). They will first be asked to become a member of Mooseswap.com price $39.95 and then to enter their permit information. Once they are members they can set up a search for the exact permit you are interested in swapping for. Save this search and you will get an e-mail message from the system every time someone joins offering a permit that fits your search. Contact the permit holder that you wish to swap with and arrange the details. Swaps are performed at the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Headquarters in Augusta and can only be completed after both permits are paid for. Permits may be swapped until two weeks before the start of the September moose hunt.

The Maine Professional Guides Association is composed of Registered Maine Guides who strive to enhance the standards of the guiding industry. They are professional guides dedicated to promoting a quality, ethical and legal outdoor experience for all. Not all Registered Maine Guides are members of Maine Professional Guides Association.

Finding events on the go

May 10, 2011

Imagine this: you’re in the line to get a drink at your favorite coffee shop, or you’re waiting for a car repair to finish. You’re not sure what you’re going to do this evening, but with the weather warming up you want to see if there’s anything happening outside. How would you find what’s going on while you’re on the road?

We’re making that easier today with the launch of the mobile versions of our Happenings network sites. If you browse to your favorite Happenings event site on a mobile device (iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, or iPod touch), you’ll now see a completely new interface to help you find events quickly and easily.

You can search events happening today, events happening soon, or you can even search for upcoming events that are nearby where you are. Once you’ve chosen an event, you can see times and contact information just as you would on the normal Happenings sites, and you’ll have a full, interactive map to guide you to where you want to go.

It’s easy to see the new site. Just head to any of our Happenings network members (Maine Events, NJHappenings, FLHappenings, PAHappenings, MAHappenings, NYEventCentral, or NHEventCentral) on your mobile device to see the new site. If you’re on an Apple device, be sure to follow the simple directions in the bubble that pops up to put the site right on your home screen for easy access later. Good luck finding the perfect event!

Introducing Calligraphy, Sephone’s paperless call messaging service

March 1, 2011

At Sephone we have a unique relationship with the small and medium-sized businesses we help in Maine and throughout the country. As we build tools for these companies, we’re able to see how they work. We learn about what’s important to keep their organizations running smoothly. We hear about frustrations and parts of business that aren’t ideal. And we experience them in our own business, too.

Phone messaging seems to be one of the parts of business that’s tough for a lot of companies. It’s difficult to handle and track calls while at the same time keeping a personal voice on the other end of the line.

Calligraphy logoWe want to help. That’s why today we’re launching Calligraphy, our paperless, online call tracking software. Calligraphy lets the person who picks up the phone at your company record the name and number of everyone who calls as well as a message for each.

But Calligraphy does more than just log calls: it’ll also send the intended recipient an email or a text message on their cell phone to let them know that they have a new call. Calligraphy also keeps a full call history to let you see a full phone log at a glance, and it remembers the people who have called in the past to make logging follow-up calls even easier.

We wanted to make it as easy as possible for your company to try Calligraphy. Just go to thinkcalligraphy.com to sign up for any of the monthly plans we’ve tailored to different business sizes. We’ll even give you two months to try out Calligraphy completely free.

Even though we’re launching Calligraphy to the world today, we’ve actually been testing it – in one form or another – for almost six years. Calligraphy is a complete rewrite of an internal system we’ve used to track the phone calls we receive at Sephone since a few months after I joined the team back in 2005. Since the partners were on the road for meetings or visits as often as they were in the office, we had piles of sticky notes that built up until they came back to our home base. We built a simple app that would notify them about new calls instantly with an email and a message on their cell phone. It’s saved us a bunch of time and sticky notes; we’ve recorded over 3,000 calls in the last year alone.

We decided to have a little fun and create an ad to show how Calligraphy can help your business keep track of the calls you receive. Hope you enjoy it.

We’ve also created a couple of other videos that run through how to use Calligraphy. You can find those videos – as well as more about our other products – on our YouTube channel.

Try out Calligraphy right now for free at thinkcalligraphy.com. We hope it makes phone messaging a little less of a hassle – and maybe even a little fun – at your company.

Project Highlight: WABI.tv

On Feburary 18th, the new WABI.tv was launched. WABI TV-5 is a CBS-affiliated television station in Bangor, Maine. Introducing SephoneCast

June 11, 2008

Today we’re excited to announce the launch of SephoneCast, a new service from Sephone. SephoneCast is an easy way to create your own podcast simply by uploading MP3 files within a Sephone-hosted login area.

Simple from the start

Have an audio or podcast recording program that creates or exports MP3 files? SephoneCast makes turning those files into a podcast as easy as 1-2-3.

Once we’ve set up an account for your podcast in SephoneCast, you’ll be given a username and password to log into your show’s administration area. From this area you’ll be able to view past episodes and upload a new one whenever you choose. Simply supply a title, description, and file from your computer to upload and your new episode will be immediately available online and to anyone subscribed to your podcast.

Use a site or start from scratch

SephoneCast makes it easy to integrate your new podcast into your existing site. Create a link straight to your podcast’s RSS feed. You can even integrate a Flash audio player with a list of episodes directly into your current site so that visitors can listen to the latest episodes without ever leaving their browser.

Don’t have a site? No problem! SephoneCast also automatically creates a show page whenever you update your podcast. The generated page has a list of episodes, a link to subscribe to the show, and an integrated audio player.

Upload once, use everywhere

Once you have a SephoneCast account, anyone can grab your podcast’s RSS feed and listen to your show in any application that supports podcast subscriptions. We can also help you submit your show to popular podcasting directories like iTunes.

SephoneCast also integrates with FeedBurner, a service from Google that gives podcasters a wealth of information about their podcast’s listeners and stats. It also provides many other options for your show ranging from buttons and stats to put on your site to a way to e-mail visitors whenever new episodes are available. We’d be happy to let you know what’s available.

Only the beginning

Over time we hope to add new features and enhancements to SephoneCast to make the experience for you and your listeners even better.

Want to learn more about SephoneCast or get started today? Give us a call at (207) 262-5040 or e-mail sales@sephone.com. We’ll be happy to answer any of your questions!
