Introduction To The Intern!

June 14, 2017

Hello! My name is Tiandra Welch, I am 22 years old and I am an Intern at Sephone Interactive Media this summer. I am currently attending the New England School of Communications a school of Husson University, where I hold a senior status and study Web Design and Development and Computer Information Systems. I transferred to Husson from a community college, so I was very nervous about the environment change that came with the size of the school, the learning styles that came with each class, and the opportunities that would be presented for me to take on. After graduation this December, I plan to find a job in web development or computer repair, and see where that takes me. The only limit I have is myself!

I chose to look into this internship at Sephone because I have heard many good things about the company and knew that it was web development based, and I wanted the chance to be a part of what I understand to be a great company! I knew that I would be able to experience many different aspects of the company instead of finding an internship where I do the same thing everyday. Coming into this internship I was both excited and nervous. From my 4 years so far at Husson I have learned many things through my programs and classes so I felt confident in some of my skills. However, I also knew that this internship would push my knowledge and understanding, therefore it would make me think. There are so many things I have yet to learn and I am hoping by the end of my experience here at Sephone towards the end of the summer I will have learned more than I could have imagined from an internship.

Email Verification: Spam, Self-Signing, and Security

June 9, 2017

Here at Sephone, we’ll occasionally get inquiries concerning email safety and security. These can range from topics like “Should I trust this suspicious-looking email?” to “Why is all my mail getting marked as spam?” In today’s blog post, I’d like to begin tackling some of these issues in-depth. I’ll do so by starting with the topic of Email Verification.

Unicode Domain Names

April 24, 2017

Recently there has been a resurgence of “phishing” websites which have one goal in mind: to get your personal information. Keeping an eye on the domain name of the website that you are visiting is always important, but recently it has become quite an issue for major companies that you wouldn’t often think twice about trusting.

WordPress Plug-Ins: Our Toolbelt (Updated)

April 14, 2017

WordPress is one of those omnipresent forces around the internet – and with so many plug-ins and themes, it’s easy to understand why. According to the CodeInWP blog, there are about 15,886,000 sites running the Content Management System (CMS). If you were to try and visit each of those websites, spending exactly 1 minutes at each, it would take over three decades to finish browsing.

WHOIS, ICANN: Should I be Worried?

December 29, 2016

Each year, domain name registrars send out an email asking about your WHOIS information. This is because a lot can happen in a year, especially when you own or operate a business. Maybe your business moved locations, or your phone number changed. Maybe a lot more significant changes took place. Your registrar cares about information that is relevant to your business and your website.

Online Security

December 9, 2016

With the holidays upon us and the increase in online sales, I wanted to take a few minutes to talk about online security.  Many online retailers take your security very seriously, but as we know, websites still get compromised every day (even sites as large as Yahoo & LinkedIn can be victimized).

So what are some things that you can do to keep your accounts and personal information secure online during this holiday shopping season and throughout the year?
